Carter Elected Chairman of
Regional Water Supply Planning Group
Lake County Board Member Bonnie Thomson Carter, District 5,
will take the helm of the Regional Water Supply Planning Group (RWSPG)
for Northeastern Illinois . The group is made up of representatives
from the 11 counties in Northeastern Illinois and the municipalities
that reside in those counties. They group’s goal is to work together
to study the region’s surface and ground water resources, evaluate
the supply and growing demand, and come up with a plan for the
future.
“The Lake County Board identified ensuring an adequate supply of
safe, affordable drinking water as one of its top priorities in the
Lake County Strategic Plan. This appointment will allow me to help
set the direction for water supply planning not only for Lake County
, but also for an entire 11 county region,” Carter said.
In January 2006, Governor Blagojevich issued Executive Order
2006-1, calling for a comprehensive program for state and regional
water-supply planning. It directed that regional water supply plans
be prepared for at least two priority areas one being northeastern
Illinois . The counties represented include: Boone, Cook, DeKalb,
DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee , Kendall, Lake , McHenry and Will
counties. The RWSPG includes representatives from diverse groups and
interests including government and business to environment and
development to ensure that all viewpoints are shared and discussed.
Carter succeeds Kane County Board Chairman Karen
McConnaughay as the second county representative to serve as
Chairman of the RWSPG. For more information on Lake County ’s water
